NEW LOCATIONS

Our goal is to create several dozen to several hundred new pools and wetland sites in the long term, not only in the Liberec Region. And why so many? Because this is the only way to create enough places for the return of a number of endangered species to our landscape. If we want our work to produce real results in biodiversity conservation, we need to have appropriate targets. We plan to continue to work closely with NGO Čmelák - Society of Friends of Nature.

The scope of our work varies from location to location. Sometimes we only provide one-off advice, other times we carry out the project comprehensively, from the design, through obtaining permits, securing subsidies to implementation in the field. Below are the localities on which we have worked and are working, and which we can say would probably never have been created in the landscape without our contribution. We will gradually add other locations.

ČESKÁ VES

The system of 22 new pools was created on the site of unused meadows, largely overgrown with reeds. During their construction, both underground pipelines and surface melioration canals were interrupted, resulting in retention of water in the landscape. A cascade of three new bodies of water was created on one of them.

The site is connected to the nearby Jablonné Wetlands, both of which have a combined area of about 10 ha. IPUR in cooperation with Čmelák is also preparing a Wetland House project, which should provide facilities for visitors to both sites and eco-activities. Most of the land in the area is owned by Čmelák - SPP.

Project start: 2017

State: implemented in 2022

Place: the location is situated on the outskirts of Jablonné in Podještědí, towards Velký Valtinov

Area: 3 ha

Water surfaces: approx. 7,570 m2

Retained water: approx. 4,940 m3

AMAZONIA OF NOVÝ BOR

These are two systems of 53 pools on the left and right banks of the local river Šporka, which are built in the local forest, or on adjoining unforested land. At the same time, part of the drainage ditches were filled in. The project also includes the subsequent opening of the site to the public, especially to the residents of Nový Bor.

Project start: 2016

State: implemented in 2024

Place: the site is located on the southern outskirts of the town of Nový Bor, near the municipal swimming pool

Area: approx. 2 ha

Water surfaces: approx. 3,260 m2

Retained water: approx. 2,100 m3

DOLNÍ VÍTKOV

In addition to the restoration of a non-functioning small water reservoir, the project also includes the construction of 20 smaller pools and the revitalization of the valley floodplain of an unnamed watercourse, which today is only a deepened ditch. The location is on the edge of extensive agricultural land.

Project start: 2017

State: A building permit was obtained, the first 6 pools were created and part of the melioration pipes were cut.

Place: the site is located in the side valley of Dolní Vítkov, part of the village of Chrastava

Area: 0.7 ha

Water surfaces: assumption of approx. 2,000 m2

Retained water: assumption of approx. 1,300 m3

STŘELNICE PERTOLTICE

This is the restoration of a small water reservoir destroyed during the floods in 2010, when the dike burst. There will also be 13 new pools built.

Project start: 2018

State: A building permit has been obtained, invasive trees have been cut and the first 9 pools have been created.

Place: the site is located near Panenský rybník on the edge of the village of Pertoltice, in the northern part of the Frýdlantský výběžek, next to the former shooting range

Area: 0.9 ha

Water surfaces: restoration of a small water reservoir of 4,990 m2 and a new pool of 1,580 m2

Retained water: approx. 6,000 m3

PANENSKÝ STREAM

After the revitalization of the Mokřady Jablonné and Česká Ves locations, we decided to continue in the vicinity of the Panenský stream. Between Jablonné in Podještědí and Velký Valtinov, or Brniště are tens of hectares of land that is no longer used for agriculture, suitable for the creation of new water bodies. The flow itself is regulated along its entire length, its eventual revitalization will have to take place in cooperation with the state enterprise Povodí Ohře. Starting this year, we are starting to negotiate with owners, municipalities, naturalists and authorities, and we will try to use local unmaintained and inaccessible land to support biodiversity and, where appropriate, for recreation and public education.

Project start: 2024

State: currently in the planning phase

Place: the location is located between the municipalities of Jablonné in Podještědí and Velký Valtinov

Area: tens of km, or 5.4 km of waterway

Water surfaces: none yet

Retained water: none yet

LOMNICE NAD POPELKOU - NAD ZÁMEČKEM

The area of interest is an elongated, slightly sloping meadow, drained on both sides by deepened and straightened streams, draining water from the locality. The routing and shape of the watercourses' bed tells about the historical drainage of the waterlogged site. In the lower, eastern part, the site is overgrown with reeds and nettles, and invasive woody plants are gradually coming here. In the upper part, the meadow is being mowed from 2021 by the association Čmelák - Friends of Nature Society. The plan is to build 9 pools - 3 without drainage and 6 with flow, with a fortified overflow. Non-flowing ponds will be fed only by atmospheric precipitation and seepage water. The water level will not be constant, it will depend on the rainfall conditions in the given period and the groundwater level. When the pools are filled, the water will drain naturally in the direction of the slope of the terrain. Flow pools will be built on an artificial channel in the center of the site. In the locality, also lead to the revitalization of the section of the bed of a small watercourse and its tributary. This trough is currently straightened and deepened. These modifications will be followed by the creation of a new route of a small watercourse, which will feed part of the newly built pools.

Project start: 2021

State: We have completed biological surveys, we regularly mow the local meadows, we have the consent of the owner and the manager of the watershed, prepared project documentation, we are getting statements for building permits.

Place: The location is located near Lomnice nad Popelkou above the castle near Oborský rybník

Area: 11 ha

Water surfaces: none yet

Retained water: none yet

JABLONNÉ V PODJEŠTĚDÍ - TOVÁRNÍ STREET

The successful revitalizations in Jablonné in Podještědí will continue on another location, with the creation of a system of 6 new pools and the restoration of wetland meadows on the outskirts of the city. We also plan to modify selected parts of the Panenský brook floodplain and their subsequent maintenance.

Project start: 2022

State: A biological assessment is made and project documentation is prepared. An application for a subsidy for the implementation of the event, which is planned for 2025-2026, is being prepared.

Place: Factory Street in the village of Jablonné in Podještědí, district of Markvartice in Podještědí
